Can I give an opinion for what I think could have been a better plot point for this chapter?
I would have changed the fate of the husband from dying to being one who ran off. I feel that has a stronger reasoning for why the mom is a bit cautious on approaching a new relationship and having some trust issues with our mc. Also for future plot points on whether the husband would return and her having to pick between him and the mc. I feel that gives a more compelling narrative than him just being dead and her having some lingering loyalty to him. Yeah it's a Ok plot point and all but I feel it doesn't really give our mc any big obstacle to overcome, unlike if the husband was a bum then it would make sense since this manga is trying to show how the mc is trying to mature in order to prove his love for the mother and that he is worthy to take care of her and her son.

Stupid adults wasting time when there are bugs to catch! Asahi had no choice but to proceed on his own.

@deCarabasHJ Considering her personality, he must be extremely careful about trying to advice her in anything parenting related. After all, he's just a college student, not a father or anything. It's even worse because she's so adamant about being a mother who has to be able to do it on her own. I'd say his approach so far has been wise: He's offering his help in ways that don't question her capability as a parent. Telling, vaguely, that relying on others is good is the kind of general common sense that shouldn't really offend normal people. Telling her that since she can't stand insects, he would like to accompany them is okay because it's not strictly related to being able to take care of Asahi, rather it's something that would make Asahi happy.

She's just so prideful. And scared. I mean, I kind a get it, but still. If she's like this till the end then it's her son who's gonna suffer.

I think this development is pretty good. In hindsight, it's very fortunate he came with them, but also I think the two of them are getting closer because they're more alike than either of them would care to admit.

Ryo's definitely been able to carry his weight in terms of the responsibilities he has to bear, and I think he's slowly but surely proving to her that he can be dependable enough to take care of both her and Asahi. Asahi and Ryo's relationship especially is an interesting one as they appear to be on very good terms, and Asahi is written like a realistic kid. (Him running off this chapter despite both his mom and Ryo telling him no would be a good example of that) As both a college student who has a part-time job and is trying to not only juggle between those two, but also trying to pursue a relationship with a woman who has a kid and taking care of their emotional needs. Credit where credit is due, he manages between those tasks exceptionally well. Yuzuki is also similar as after her husband died, she felt like she needed to take over the responsibilities all by herself, and so is exceptionally guilt-ridden and overworks herself to the point of absurdity. She clearly needs someone else to lean on, but she's too scared that something might happen to them and so she feels the only person she can truly depend on is herself. (This explains why she initially rejects Ryo, as she not only views him as a college student who doesn't know what the adult world is like but also she's scared at getting in another relationship.) She collapses a lot in times of great stress as shown between this chapter and the last one and I think that it's a good indicator that she can't manage stress well, but is too stubborn to extend an olive branch or ask for help. I'm glad the author shows this flaw within her as it adds to a decently nuanced portrayal.

Also, I remember in the first chapter everyone was saying Yuzuki was "used goods" and that Ryo shouldn't get into a relationship because she had another man's kid. (The reasoning being why would you play from another man's save point or something to that effect.) Well, now that it's 100% confirmed he's dead, I don't think that argument holds water anymore...Not that I ever believed in such a reductionist idea in the first place.

@Tamerlane Great comment! Said all that I wanted to~ Ryo still needs more experience handling kids tho, they need a loooot more attention then the average teen would think (which in this case led to Asahi wandering off)

This is really sweet aside from the silly boob landings that keep happening over and over and over.

@Stepark

I wouldn't call him a simp. Especially since she's a widow. She did things the right way, got married and had a kid. It wasn't her making bad choices on who to spread her legs for, or having a kid out of wedlock irresponsibly.

Young, pretty widows with kids are A-OK dating partners.

Brilliant analysis.
The dynamic of a young man trying to appeal to a widowed woman, not some shallow highschool chick, is rarely explored.
Ryo grew on me and slowly became one of my favorite romance protagonists because of the points you mentioned.
Side note, this series has the decency to not introduce "more widows for widow harem lol". It focuses on the one couple and fleshes them out properly, kudos to author.

The author probably decided against that to keep the "cheating" argument at bay, or anyone doubting the "legitimacy" of ryo approaching this woman. Especially at his work place.
And maybe to keep a certain limit on the amount of drama.
That being said, I personally would've enjoyed seeing your suggestion in this manga. Would've been a fantastic addition to the existing dynamic. Oh well.

Broke the first rule of watching a kid by not actually watching the kid. One second is all it takes for them to dart off to wherever they feel like going.

Wow that "wait... where's everyone" hits hard.
Many times, the difficulty of loss isn't most heavily felt instantly but gradually as you try to figure out what your life now looks like.
But when someone around us faces loss, it's most easy to be there for them just in the beginning when it is raw, and not later when the wound is deeper and less visible.
For a joke moment, that was poignant.
