My bet on the actual mastermind is that one single friend that Yotsuba and Uichi had in common - the hacker girl that I forgot her name and hasn't shown up for quite some time - simply because she seems to be the least likely culprit.

I think the tell that this is a red herring was with the letter saying that he saw the fake confession back in middle school. I can't imagine a reason that could have possibly lead to her brother being there that doesn't come out stupidly contrived

The conversation suggested that that moment was when Clover found out about the watch, so it would not make much sense for the brother to be Clover since he already knew everything about the watch.
