Tbf I had a hard time believing many bullying stories since in my school, even if your traits were of a loser, people wouldn't go out of their way to ridicule you for it.

Until I heard the stories from my sister, that is. She wasn't bullied but her classmates were. She is 7 years younger than me and I couldn't fathom why she was admitted to some random private elementary school (that I didn't think it was even good anyway, which is the whole point of private). It's only "technically" cuz everytime he tried to bully me (and only me for some reason), I fought back so it turned into a bloody fight instead. He eventually being expelled softly from school though. No wonder. Definitely the dullest tool in the shed.

I have just discovered something absolutely golden here. Yotsuba's expressions, both happy and dark, are amazing. It's not often that I come across something that just GRIPS me from the first page. The amount of raw emotion poured into Yotsuba's terrifying anger at the world, and Uichi's hopelessness, dispair, and modicum of sanity in a world that's turned its back on him can be felt in every panel. The short premise on the front page does this no justice, and this being labeled as a Shounen does this manga even less justice.

But it's pieces like this that is the reason why I still dig in the trash heap of Shounen manga. Because when I find a treasure, god damn is it amazing.
