That a ... strange ending?
I guess it's alright since the journey never end, but does it means that Kino has been travelling for this long and didn't age?

Could be interpreted that the communal trauma from Shizu helping out combined with communal guilt of lack of gratitude have the town reframe, yet distance themselves from the event

So in reality maybe not too much time has actually passed maybe a few months or more

We tried to convey the nuance in english too, but just to be clear, the way that dude said it implies that they decided it recently. So it’s a bunch of lies but they are going to stick to it. I guess they don’t want others figuring out they were a bunch of assholes who expelled the one who saved them.

My guess is that it hasn't even been a year since the dude is still getting used to telling the story.

It's as the TL said. Kino no Tabi has a lot of nuanced writing and art that's kind of 'blink and you'll miss it'. It requires a certain level of media literacy and focus on the artwork to catch all the little nods. I tried to keep as much of the nuances as possible when doing the PR, so even the translations of the nuances are gonna be a little hard to catch some time.
