I hate when authors dump a villain backstory on us like this. It's just wasted pages and time, no one cares about a villain that just showed up. Give them a goal, but don't bother telling us their tragic history until they've been around long enough that readers actually want to know. If this character isn't still here in a dozen chapters and part of the main cast, then the backstory never mattered.
