I really liked the new cover art, the way Ciel is holding Evie is so good, and I love how the author makes it a point to draw Ciel's hands noticeably bigger than Evie's. That's some peak handholding.

Ciel having her badass moment was so nice, blew a hole in the wall and had dad going from "You will obey me!" To "Yeah I can't deal with her, let her do her thing" lol too funny

Feels like the story is just starting, in a way. I fully expect a major plot about ending the stigma of dark magic, the fate of the brother, the propagation of Ciels Light powers... there's so much that couldn't even be touched until we cleared the "you must produce heirs" hurdle that is (understandably) part and parcel with every sapphic series in a historical setting.

Bad parent, stubborn parent, but at the end of the day, a parent... Though there are things worth criticizing about the king, he did well at the end, considering the whole context of the story.

...I'm happy about how things turned out, but I feel like this early drama was pretty weak. The introductory chapters were great, but it instantly went downhill when the father just fucking strongarmed Ciel into throwing the Prince lie just to force her into a marriage. Then this flashback scene acts as if there was anything at all redeemable about the King like it's actually Ciel's own fault or something.

There's just- no smart political scheme or realpolitik at play with the King, no cold calculus where his decisions make sense besides the misoginy of wedding off his genius daughter and hoping to be lucky enough that her kid was born a boy with light magic. I don't see why the plot didn't just have the guy exit stage left already.

The chapter 9 Raw on the official raw link was only released 2 days ago. The point I usually question if it's ended is when it reaches a year. Manga releases take time, and so does translating it.
