i wouldnt consider "absolutely hated by her parents, abused from birth, enacting her revenge only to then lose everything about herself to the target of her revenge as she saves the target of revenge's life and becoming a living prisoner" as scott free. Mariette is too nice to punish Claudette, but its not like Claudette isnt suffering for her actions.

If we want to talk natural disaster, pissing off a spirit is probably up there in scale of 'u dun fuq'd'

Spoiler: to put into perspective

When Marietta and Claudette meet, the others agree that the two can have their conversation with only the white dragon and Melve Tree as their respective bodyguard.

Even disregarding the contracts and spirits, she is (supposedly) the great evil witch, who can easily wipe out the entire village if she feels disrespected or simply woke up on the wrong side of bed one day. And in practicality she is not far off, easily able to wipe them out if she truly wanted to.

Damn, how bad was the witch before to make it that everyone recognized her on sight. Like, was she galavanting through town like "yeah I caused this and you can't do shit."

And yet they try to do shit.

They said to capture her though, not kill her. Maybe they just want to lock her up somewhere so they can keep throwing mud at her.

Witches can control the weather and the wicked witch of the night fog forest did just that for a whole year. That's a whole thing of their mythology sometimes even in real life, especially calling for rain when it's dry.
I don't think Marietta can do it just yet so she won't be able to help much. Mr. Tree can probably help.
