This feels like the author saying "fuck you publisher for axing my series, you want an extra chapter to fix it? How about I throw and extra fuck you once again!"

This wouldn't be unique in the industry. If I remember there was a manga about a guy helping a girl with makeup and the author got upset about not getting an anime for it so they screwed up the ending hard to burn bridges with the publisher and fans.

If this was like the midway point or so where they confirm they're friends and she spends time with him, slowly realizing that these emotions she's feeling are different than the ones she feels around Ichigo, it'd be peak. But no. "Let's leave the ending so open ended that it could go whatever way you decide yourself" like I can't take this anymore man.
