This chapter was really confusing. It feels like Cool can't decide if Iruru is the same age as Tohru or if she's a child like Kanna. She has a job and everything. One chapter Kobayashi sees her as a kid. In another she's treated as a teen who can take care of herself, has her own job, and acts like she's around Tohru's age.

New Kobayashi family lore! I don't think anything bad happened to them, since people are confused by the past tense of "had". I think thats just a quark of the English language. Though I think we've had mention of at least her brother in one of the early chapters, but I could be wrong. Still, seen more of her family (physically) in the manga then we've seen of them in the anime. Though they actually did visit them in the anime, so guess it balances out.

kanna tights are NOT that big before, I had to reread the last few chapters to see if I had missed it until was thrown in my face, needless to say she wasn't like this when she was first introduced because well... all the characters had their designs altered since the first chapters.

I'm not going to speculate on authorial intent because there's more than one author and I can't read one person's mind, let alone many. However, the way I see it is maturity isn't a linear, one variable thing, where you are more or less mature based on age. Iruru is more mature in some ways, and less mature in other ways; she has spent less time on Earth than Kanna, but is overall older. She is obviously more sexually mature than Kanna (being obviously interested in a boy, whereas Kanna doesn't seem very interested in romance yet), but has pretty poor emotional intelligence compared to her. Also, just because she had a fight with Kanna doesn't mean she's like, on the same level as her--if you have a little sister, it's perfectly reasonable to have a fight with her.

You're missing my point. Cool has Kobayashi and Tohru see Iruru as a kid at times. A kid just like Kanna. The family dynamic makes it feel like she's the teen daughter of Tohru and Kobayashi. The issue is she's the same age as Tohru. So seeing chapters where Kobayashi calls her or views her as a kid feels weird when she's the same age as her main love interest.
