I thought the whole thing with Kanna's dad was that he was only just starting to understand the concept of familial affection, hence why he told Kanna she should be with Kobayashi for now (aside from the obvious lifespan aspect of it), and why Vol 8 ended with a panel of him sitting on his own and looking contemplatively into the sky. Only a few chapters later, it feels a little strange for him to already seem so open to being her father, giving her head rubs and being happy to buy her a phone on a whim. Shouldn't this all be a lot more awkward for him?
