Probably made an exception. Ayumi is a queen without tribe, so they pull up candidates who are close.
As for why they took immature butterflies, probably because 1) Adults don’t like being with butterflies of other colours. 2) It would be better to have the candidates mature into black butterflies rather than forcefully change the colour of already mature butterflies.

Maybe because she is the queen and it is her Garden, so she can make the rules; she wanted to have her closest friends as aides, so be it.

As other have already stated, I think they specifically picked Ayumi's friend to be part of her clan, it's why Kyou did said that "although she was not a friend of yours".

Literally,they explicitly mentioned putting them in cryo,albeit,I think the eggs might be the human type,which means less laying and more sticking a needle in to suck it up.

Unless they really start showing butterfly style egg laying with an ovipositor sticking out.

Bonus points if they have directly stuff it into others and then lay the eggs.
