interesting power up, because it serve kinda like metaphor as the character grow self respect and moving on from toxic relationship they hold on to, that is what holding them back from growing. The way she no longer care about the "ex" really reflect that.

Yeah so Ayumi's just a whole new type, though I wonder if she's purely a mutation or if she's just the spawn of a new faction of noble butterfly.

Honestly though my theory has been that Ayumi was incubating a queen butterly and that she normally would not have transformed as long as the queen of her faction was still alive. And that she did ultimately bloom because her sheer will to live mutated it to a new type as it would have otherwise been completely unable to actually awaken.

Extreme personality shifts are always hard to write. Go too far and you basically kill off the character and replace her with someone else in the same body. It also kills the weight of the past emotional baggage, which is jarring, but at least we get the opportunity for more introspective emotional turmoil. No longer caring about that girl in the past was the only way for this plot to move forwards anyhow.

Was she able to understand the bug on that panel or was it just general annoyance because of the sound they make? It would be interesting if she metamorphosed to something resembling their enemies.

While I enjoyed Ayumi being done with Reika, I also hope it would be explored more in later chapters. Reika was her main motivation to survive and become a noble butterfly so to have that be tossed aside so quickly is jarring. Maybe she'll have an inner conflict? Dual personality perhaps?

The first chapter showed Reika apprehensive on how the transformation will change them. I wouldn't be surprised if a personality shift is inevitable after transforming. Maybe they naturally gravitated toward the Queen as a sort of biological directive to protect her. Would make sense in the context of real world insects.

It also makes sense if it happens over time. You kinda see in the initial burst too that she seems to be in an almost daze for awhile. Would be neat to see if she needs to fight more and more to not fall into an apathetic daze that corrodes the desire to maintain her current relationships.

And the plot is so interesting, I'm really digging this new Ayumi, hopefully we'll see more of her on a deep, personal and physiological level
