Because too many creators don’t bother to plan for what happens after a couple forms, so if it’s popular enough to continue they stall until it’s unpopular.

Some of the best stuff these days isn’t structured that way. Not that things structured such are always bad, but it’s nice that more and more are willing to cover making a relationship work.
My fav manga has continued, and has a planned conclusion (which we don’t know yet. Just when, in-world). It’s spin-off and my current second fav? I doubt it will. Just doesn’t seem to make as much sense, unless things shift greatly.
Well, a far bit of shoujo continues, but I find they get less interesting.
