It was revealed in one of the super early chapters (3 or 4 from memory). But not really mentioned after that.

i hope the story will either deviate into a new direction by some drastic action (kidnapping? time skip?) or by other means. while i do enjoy the idle and slow progress on the characters, i fear it won't hold anyone interested for too long.

Didn't the current lord also cut the orphanage support and maybe was or wasn't related to the "bad adventurers"

Makes it easier to differentiate the party from the orphanage too.
