Well, communication is basically the hardest dark souls boss-fight when it comes to manga so it's pretty difficult (pretty normal for mangaka's for a while, at least from my reading experience). But at least Fuyuki made it clear that her love towards Eri-chan isn't just a friendship kinda love, but something more.

Fuyuki made it perfectly clear here that she doesn't like Senpai that away and that their relationship was only ever a distraction. I think people just like to imagine a world where they get over their respective loves, because even as fake girlfriends they have a cute & supportive friendship, and good chemistry. It also helps that Senpai is hot.

I think it more speaks to how people feel about Eri than anything else. They'd rather support Fuyuki being in that sort of unromantic relationship than with Eri.

People like designated losers even when said losers aren't running or give a crap about the "prize." It also helps that whoever senpai likes is not a presence in the story. We know he exists and little else.

I cant wait for the 5 steps back this chapter is going to cause as we get like 10 chapters where they feel to awkard or their friendship feels too shattered to interact with each other as we the reader have to sit idly by until we finally get some more progress.

I believe it has to do with how much pain Eri has inflicted on her over all the years. And Eri's selfishness which even Fuyuki early on in the manga mentions. It's extremely toxic and it would be better if Fuyuki could move on (Which is what she says she wants to do at the end of the first chapter too). Besides it isn't like you can only ever love one person your whole life. Both her and the senpai find solace in each other and that's a form of love too. It could definitely grow to be romantic.

I honestly am struggling to feel bad for Eri in all of this.

Agree big-time, loving someone isn't just all rose-tinted glasses. Esp in some parts of the world where same sex-relationships are very looked down upon, if you're a woman loving another woman or a man loving another man I'll be cheering on you! Because people deserve to be happy, no matter religion, culture, all that jazz and whatnot.
