i wouldn't expect a turtle either but i wonder how often whoever owns? it does maintenance/sends a mechanic/technician to make sure things are alright i'd assume either it'd be once a month or whenever someone calls to file a report about a machine not working

Toss a coin for the Witcher laundromat.

But yeah, self-proclaimed gatekeeper can be dicks. Instead of gatekeepers they should be mentors for the newbies.

tbf she is an idol so this could be way more toxic if this wasn't a light hearted slice of life/i'd half expect some 'scandal' of them being scene together if the author wanted more unnecessary drama (altho as the idol herself other than specifics or calling anyone out she could just send some generic "i'm happy for all my fans" or so and maybe subtly ask them to get along)

I wouldn't think saying "I love them" is too blunt as opposed to claiming that he'd be an expert but i guess it's just a part of JP culture to be reserved or whatever

she found that owner post pretty quickly tho unless she can set it to like "turtle (name of city/area they're in)
" as a search (tho would be an interesting promo post like 'idol helps reunite turtle with owner' XD)

I’m guessing this is a case of translation convention, since colloquial Japanese works a lot with ellipses and missing words. I assume he literally just said “Love”, not “I love them”. The subject and object in the sentence would be implied by context to be him and animals, but if the mind drifts, another context might be taken (e.g. “I love you”).

Nah, it can't be the guardian spirit. Those industrial washing machines are faster than the average (and much cheaper) units consumers buy. So, a turtle wouldn't fit the image.

I mean. They're fast at breaking? They're usually slow and old and ponderous (and sometimes expensive) and you use them cause you don't have any other choice. These ones are definitely the typical type, just look at how many have 'out of order' signs on them in various episodes.

Proper gatekeeping is to allow those that have an interest in so they can learn and develop that, but also be on guard against those that come in with bad intentions, like clout chasers, drama queens, parasites, etc.

That whole shop is nearing the end of line. There are too few customers. We have never seen anyone but the MC, the idol, and the turtle. The turtle didn't even use the services. Realistically there should be a bunch of others, as only two paying customers wouldn't even allow the owner to pay the bills, let alone make profit. But nevertheless, the owner will probably only keep the place running as long as there's a washing machine still in a working order, then shut it all down. Not enough income to repair devices or overhaul the place.

Edit: Of course there's non-zero chance it's a yakuza money laundering business, but it would need to be stupid yakuza to allow the place to get so near to termination. Although with the Japanese police's infamous incompetence, who knows. The yakuza could probably lock the doors permanently and still keep laundering money through it, as long as the place still exist, even if it had zero revenue.
