In the flashback panels, when Alan said there's 1 (survivor), then it beeps, the Captain then said "There's no survivor."

Did they abandon that one person to die ? Or did that beep means that person just died right there already. (or maybe that last person got 'turned' into that Tank.)

i think its the latter. usually in this kind of setting where the alien is bug-type the survivor either become corrupted or simply in the process of corruption its too dangerous to rescue

So this is just my 2¢,
I think others have found their way onto the planet far before allan. nanoms have pretty much infested/installed in this world, and 2 entities are at play here. The bug and human nanom entities, maybe digital entities inside the nanom network. the human entity brought allan here for help as its probably losing control against the bug variant.

also, thinking bugs are actually long lost human experimentations gone wrong. probably attempts at synthetically grown weapons using human dna mixed with other dna.
