Wait so the religion was being used by the bugs to get human sacrifices so they can get information on humans.

But the human sacrifice practice is considered as taboo by the orthodox church? Maybe Aria and Nemo have been making moves in the background way before Alan arrived. They're also probably the ones who stopped the imperial warship in warp that caused the ship to explode (probably by accident).

Okay, some of this back and forth with the background is starting to make sense. We weren't dealing with a singular entity

Sooo, a self aware piece broke off from the bug hive mind?

With Nemo commenting on some force separating it from 'us' on page 10, I think it's less being self-aware and more Nemo might've been intentionally isolated and modified by the Goddess (the real one, not Valkians claiming to be gods)

Wipe out its memories (so while it still has vague sense of having some 'duty', it's not being a threat) and instill feeling of happiness to interact with human (so no going nom nom and lose that contact)

So are all the giant bug war forms supposed to consist of lots of tiny gremlin guys? That's a really weird direction to take it. Considering this is past the source material now, what's the mangaka even cooking?

Comparing the name and it's secular meaning, it's possible that these aliens are supposed to be the equivalent to Christianity's angels. Nemo could be a Principality, which is the highest rank of the lowest tier, with Archangels and Angels lower in rank. This would make the bugs' whole religious disguise make more sense.

Third Order

Principalities or rulers

According to The Etymologies of Isidore of Seville, the principalities (Latin: principatus), also translated as "Princedoms" and "Rulers", from the Greek archai, pl. of archē (see Greek root in Eph 3:10), are the angels that guide and protect nations, or groups of peoples, and institutions such as the Church. The principalities preside over the bands of angels and charge them with fulfilling the divine ministry. There are some who administer and some who assist.[40][needs update]

I didn't have much confidence when this manga caught up to the WN, but the manga artist is really doing great 😃
Honestly nah. The manga peaked when the novel adaptation ended. Everything from that point onwards feels like a very rapid and sloppy powercreep. The MC is now literally useless, and we haven’t seen him do much in volumes.

We’re in the FFXIV equivalent of being in the 2.x patches between ARR and HW. The filler slog bit that everyone encourages you to breeze thru AFAP because holy shit it’s a drag.

Huh, half way the chapter I was thinking the same "gotta be a bug turned good", mangaka can milk this one until they would introduce another (more) alien species :pepela:
