I had the time travel theory for some time too, but after some revelations from the story and learning more about the galactic empire plus the world we are in (like magic or the encounter of the bug), I do not think it is time travel anymore.
So far, I'll join @jack992 for some ancient civilization, be it human or not. Same with the AI (like Iris) being the goddess and/or the one interfering if they are not the same AI. It made sense in previous chapters as it could connect to some individuals via nanom or some other technology (the prince that transformed and the spy girl could have had a special constitution or some item that let the connection happen).
What I'd like to know is the relation of the bugs and the humans. Why did the prince transformed? And were the other bugs also humans before or only some of them? If I remember, Alan did lost some people during a mission (or it was to find missing soldiers I don't remember) and some bugs attacked him and his team when they were not supposed to meet any bugs in this area/planet. So, are all bugs ex-humans? Was it to evolve the human species? Or is it a way for the bugs to survive/live/"reproduce"?
