The problem with the civil war part of your suggestion is that there's an enemy country waiting for that opportunity or any other kind to happen. If a civil war happens, the overall combat potential of the kingdom is severely reduced. The invading forces come in at any time during or after the civil war, the nobles who are left will decide whether to fight or surrender on their own. The whole point of some of the earlier chapters was to not reduce their military power because of said enemy country.

The church does have too much influential power but it is the main religion of the country. It doesn't have the political power to affect anyone but when their influence is used in a political circle, their words hold great weight and can stranglehold certain parties. And those who conspire with them can gain great strides in their goals. They're not a ruler, just a great influential force.

The summary of this chapter is that this is a conspiracy move by the faction to get rid of the Armelia house by using the church's denouncement against Iris. The current Prime Minister, her father is technically a neutral party, but he does oppose the changes that Prince Edward is trying to make. In short, because Iris is an easier target to attack the larger target they want to get rid of. She's kind of the extra bonus in this since they saw an opportunity. What the whole point of this is to get rid of the Armelia house, a powerful Duke family who has held the position of Prime Minister for at least several generations already, so they can put in their own puppet who will do their bidding.

Both of the factions view the Armelia house as being a bit too powerful at the moment, both sides are taking their own measures. One side is doing mere investigations and checking of motives. While the other is doing conspiracies to try and get rid of them outright.

@hikufalafel It's not unheard of for clergy to get involved in politics, playing Kingmaker, decrying opponents of their chosen faction.

Everyone gangs up on her and her efforts. Makes me hate people who does those things the more.

But we all know she will turn this around eventually.

That's the same thing. Power is power. The church needs to be brought into a position where trying to affect the secular power in forceful ways will result in certain high ranking clergy members having a meeting with the headsman. In the end the church is a hierarchy as well, so if a top ranking member disappears, the position will be eagerly taken by one of those under him. That person will likely be more cooperative with the ruler of the country and less likely to get involved in high politics. In return the country will allow the church to enjoy their riches and their influence over the lives of the common people, which is a stabilising factor.

like @AnonDePlume said, doing so would be contraproducent because the civil population felt unneasy about their landlord-in-charge (hence the next chapters) but even if she decided make a new sovereign state sooner (she really can't take that decision by herself) she had to deal with the country's reitalation (that most likely would ended in a civil war, THE VERY THING THAT THE ANOTHER COUNTRY SEEK) weakening economical and military both duchy and the main kingdom.

Easier said than done. If you have read the original source for this manga, you would know HOW this arc goes down.

The problem as it currently stands right now is that one has to prove there are corrupt elements in the Church. So far from the manga chapters provided, no such proof or negative view has been shown. There has to be proof of something so scandalous against the church that can bring your solution. That hasn't been proven yet because there's no evidence found as of yet.

I still don't see any of that as a problem...
The church problem is literally a non-problem as long as she just keep doing what she is doing and let others deal with the population in her stead for some time.
The increase in tool is good for her as it gives a excuse to stop trade with the capital and/or create new trading routes that does not go through midna and as such weakening Midnas fief and strenghning hers wich would allow the take over of the territory in the future given a few other actions are taken... not that taking over would be good because of the captal already being afreaid of her fief prosperity and all.

She should take the news with more clam and think instead of being all upset like that...

@hayatekanzaki I don't think it was quite so necessary in absolute monarchies back in the day. Now, any of this poorly applies to Iris, of course, since she has relatively little power outside of her own fief. This chapter made it look like she has little power and influence within it as well, which rubbed me the wrong way. Nearly everybody there should be much happier than they used to be. Even the priests should have been happy and the uncorrupt ones among them would find the news of her excommunication troubling. Of course some corrupt people here and there would have found her troublesome, but that's it. Then again, people in the past were as stupid as a rubber boot, so anything could happen. The economic side of this chapter seemed so dodgy I didn't want to pay it too much attention. If others raised tolls, she would raise them as well. End of story. Just look at what's going on in our world.

Do otome games have this level of thick plot or what? Weren't they supposed to be games that'll make player doki doki or something?

@suryaiyer13 The point of this genre is to show a new perspective to those stories. Similar to those parody fairytale books where the princess and the frog prince actually hate each other and get divorced because they actually had no reason to love each other in the first place. In otome games, the emphasis is usually placed on the romance and having knights in shining armor whisk you away. But with these manga/novels, we see how psychotic the protagonist is. We see how delusional those friendly characters are. We see a more fully-realized world. It's why this is one of my favorite genres of manga right now.
