I know Nelt is a dwarf, but as someone who reads the novel she gives an impression of someone who looks more mature, more of an aunty than a (legal) loli.
That said the art vibe of the series is cute, even the “scary” black tiger corpse looks like some cute plushy, so I kinda understand where it’s coming from.

The paperbacks of the volumes have mangaka notes at the end. One of them was the requirements that were given to the artist for it, the fights must be short and also everything must be cute. For example monsters can be seen being killed, but the deaths are lightened by being cutesy with like X's for eyes.
