I think he allowed himself to get captured to gather intel, and just now broke out. At least that's how it seemed to me.

Yes to the possible breakout, but I don't think he got himself captured on purpose. He seemed to fight seriously and barely got away with his life (not only through being slammed into the wall with the force of five truck-kuns, but also because nine times out of ten Azazel would have vivisected him, what was what I thought until now had happened offscreen).

But it's an interesting thought that his "There are plenty more people after you. Compared to them I am nothing." back then did not refer to anyone in Helena as Shield (and the reader) assumed, but to the Dark Elf collaborators he was already in contact with.
