Sure, you can say that they can still stay in touch, but she's sacrificing too much just to keep in touch with him, what it being a long distance relationship.

Agreed that realistically this is the right choice. Manga narratively…my guess is we get a time skip to him still single as a new rookie joins his department and it turns out to be her because she decided her career path was to chase him.

I've noticed this in this manga's translation recently but "gotto" is not a word. Thought it was a typo at first but you people keep using it. It's "gotta". As in, you gotta learn english
