Melphina actually asking the right questions here. The same questions the readers have had for a while. Now he's a sudden patriot who loves the country enough to save it after some royals and nobles treated him like trash, and his magic is still not back.
Don't save the first prince. His stupid actions cause grave consequences and this is one of those. It's cathartic to see these villains play stupid games and win stupid prizes, the reader will be robbed of that schadenfreude if the protagonists save the corrupt prince.
