Honestly, these interstitial moments feel like the main draw for the series, given how abruptly the fights go. That is not a complaint, more battle series give us brief glimpses of this sort of thing but rarely deliver

Well tbf he just has really low self esteem. Yaerg was/is really direct so it got through to him while Noah is a Tsundere and Brigid is so stupidly innocent that she probably doesn't even realises her own feelings. I can see why it would take a while for him to catch on to their feelings.
