my heart...
Yeah.... you got a real point there. She has been just so damn straightforward this whole time. You would think she might be straight up with one person, even if it's not Keisuke, especially as she gets more friends.Honestly - the fact that Otobe's cold wasn't justified in-story at all in all that "time skipping" we did two chapters ago with Kusunoki avoiding Keisuke, and then she "gets over it in a day" is even more contrived than them butting faces on the ice and getting zero injuries from it to "force a kiss" between them.
Feels like the author's checking off an itemized list of the three main female characters and rushing through the timeline to give each a "1 on 1" with Keisuke in whatever way they can manage - because Kusunoki bailing entirely for the remainder of the year--from off screen--just feels like lazy writing, off the back of having Otobe back out of the initial 3-person movie date via text message.
Kusunoki running away like this is entirely expected, though. She still feels like she's in the wrong manga - she just wanted to have her HS debut with friends and good grades and sports and to just reset her image from middle school.
But she's had this romance harem contest thrust upon her because she went and pulled the same behavior with Keisuke at the start of this series, that landed her in trouble in elementary school, and now she can't get out of it because she'd rather just run away than face the music.
Which - she's shown that she can face down and own up to things; she did it with Hebikawa back in chapter 11, which is when Hebikawa first realized "oh, you're acting like you're earnest and honest, but I can't believe a girl like that really exists".
And, just like her athleticism inexplicably leaving her to allow for the kiss last chapter, now she can't be the person she's been up to now (honest straightfoward and willing to confront the issue head-on) simply because it's Keisuke? All it would take is her being up-front about things, but her running away gives a semblance of a chance to Otobe, so the author's just doing what they can, I suppose.
Can't say these last few chapters have felt too "on-brand" compared to before, though. The simple fact we've skipped multiple weeks by having montage "I can't meet up because X" and ended up rushing through the school year (including exams, unless I missed a chapter) just feels like the author's rushing the plot at this point.
But we'll see what happens with the Christmas Date. It's not gonna work out for Otobe, I wager, as I would bet money this won't be a Botan Series. But maybe it'll result in a cute chapter for Otobe in the moment, if nothing else.
Christmas is not a family event in Japan, in fact, it's a romantic eventImagine going on a date with some random girl on christmas instead eating good with your family
Honestly? You can fully blame Kusunoki on that one.MOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
GOD DAMN THIS MANGA IS FULL OF SNAKES.
The fact she ran away--while already off-screen--for the remainder of the calendar year, isn't really on Otobe, yeah.Honestly? You can fully blame Kusunoki on that one.
In Japan Christmas is more of a romantic holiday, New Year is their family holiday IIRC.Imagine going on a date with some random girl on christmas instead eating good with your family
In japan Christmas is a holiday for couples and children. The country isn't catholic so they don't share the same values of celebrating the birth of Christ with your family, it's a pagan holiday marked by an increase in love hotel guests!Imagine going on a date with some random girl on christmas instead eating good with your family
ya know, reading it again it actually does make sense that she isn't being straightforward. This is the first time she has actually liked a boy. Her previous situation was straightforward cause she was just trying to solve a misunderstanding but here there isn't one. She does like Keisuke and is aware of it and has absolutely no idea how to navigate this and not lose him as a friend so @UdenEmpati I'm revising my stance on that basisYeah.... you got a real point there. She has been just so damn straightforward this whole time. You would think she might be straight up with one person, even if it's not Keisuke, especially as she gets more friends.
I'm surprised Hebikawa didn't overhear something but now she push for another date
Thanks for the tl
