I feel like this chapter kinda shows why i like Hebikawa
She has character flaws and she isn't perfect
Her being unfortunate in her lottery (most likely unintentionally) shows she isn't blessed with fortune
She has to work to get what she wants even if it is by underhanded means
Most the time when her tactics don't work shows how weak she really is
She's untrusting of others and doesn't believe anyone's intentions
I think this is why I like Moe in this chapter calling out Hebi's tactics
I don't think she ever had anyone who just confronts her on who she is
I also like how it shows Hebi thinks people like Kusunoki have it so well without thinking about any problems they have to face
Again showing how she isn't perfect at judging people like she thinks she does
Her flaws are what make her human and feel like a real breathing character

Moe did well this chapter. Kusunoki got another buff as the title girl. And my opinion of Hebikawa remains unchanged. She has been doing superbly as a side heroine who started off with a lot of haters. I have 0.1% hope that this manga might stop being vanilla and let the other girls win

Kusunoki's father, even from those few panels, is clearly still depressed and barely holding it together.

Hebikawa's mother is constantly searching for validation in the form of a relationship with "a good man," to the point of getting sloshed after each breakup and neglecting her daughter.

If we wanna talk something that would almost totally upend the dynamics and status quo of the manga...

All good points, just to add my own little bit, I think Hebikawa is doomed to fail.

I don't mean all the time but we've basically got a reoccurring theme now.

Hebikawa tries getting closer with Keisuke to use him against Kusunoki?
Keisuke immediately calls her out.
Hebikawa tries teasing Keisuke with a kiss?
Keisuke instead shares an (unintentional) one with Kusunoki
Hebikawa tries acting cocky towards her mom's (former) boyfriend?
She nearly gets herself into some serious trouble.

And we got two more moments this chapter, firstly we know from last chapter that Hebikawa was making Moe aware of how close Keisuke and Kusunoki were getting but this chapter? they're perfectly fine, granted there's obviously going to stuff rumbling below the surface but with Hebikawa's own thoughts this chapter it seems clear to me that Moe and Kusunoki's friendship will be fine even when Keisuke and Kusunoki do start dating.

Secondly, Hebikawa tried cheating and getting out of sports only for Moe to strongly confront her and call her out.

All of this to say that I think Hebikawa's ultimate goal of seeing Kusunoki's "dark side" will end in failure for one reason or another, my personal hope is that she chooses to give up before anything serious happens like, she sees for herself that Kusunoki's mom is dead and other details, the cracks are already forming anyway.

As far the romance in this series goes, I think it's a one and done deal in that Kusunoki and Keisuke are endgame, the big question is just how we get there (hopefully with no Moe tears).

The two main narratives I've seen from Hebi stans are that she FAR supersedes Kusunoki because Kusunoki is boring and because Hebi pushes the plot forward. I do agree that she definitely pushes the plot forward but I disagree that Kusunoki is boring.

The thing about the war, as you put it, is that the Snek-haters pretty show up to trash on Hebikawa, on grounds that she offend their sensibilities. As evidence, I present to you idiot #1:

Moe-chan being based as fuck and calling out Hebikawa's antics, while Kusunoki throws shade at Hebikawa, even if unintentionally. Good chapter.

This guy is owning "the libs", except "the libs" here is a fictional girl who's also nothing more than bully. It's silly, it's like they're self-inserting themselves into every pore of the story. I've also never seen this guy nor idiot #2 having anything to say about Kusunoki beyond "um, she's a good person" either.

I think its only appears passive because her approach is not as explosive and in your face as Hebi's. There are multiple instances of her being proactive as of late which people fault her for not being. Like acting on romantic jealousy during Valentine's, pushing past paralysis to give Keisuke chocolate out of fear of losing him. She said yes immediately when invited to the shrine, and as of late is actively choosing to explore her feelings for Keisuke. And I know some people will say "muh its only recently, Hebi has been proactive throughout the whole story." Yes because that is how she's written, she's overconfident and goes head-first into things that intrigue her. Whereas Kusunoki is more reserved. And again we cannot ignore that she completely blocked out the idea of romance until recently.

The development is a good thing, but for some of us, it's just lost love at this point. Also rather than pointing out that Kusunoki is more reserved than Hebikawa, it's better to just blame the author for not giving us Kusunoki's backstory sooner. If the author had done that, there would've been more chances for bonding scenes between her and Keisuke and there would also be more Kusunoki fans in here too. This really is just a lack of experience on the author's part.

I was wondering why even make Moe part of the love competition when it barely impacted the dynamics and she clearly has no chance (plus there was already a love triangle of sorts at play), but I guess it was about the "2 girls falling for the same guy and still being friends" bit that Hebi talked about this chapter. So if they keep their friendship strong even after this is over it would prove Hebi wrong so this is probably where the author wants to take this.
