It always throws me off how strict Japanese schools are in these sorts of things. (Which is presumably based on real life?) Like, "no make-up" just seems needlessly controlling. A lot of manga even has the school have rules against stuff like part-time jobs, driving, staying out late, &c.

Like, I guess it's just a cultural difference, but sometimes it just seems pointlessly strict.
It's commonplace across Asia, not just Japan and its media. It's especially strict for schools with a public image to uphold.

My school back then used to be lax with it until girls started coming into class late because they're fixing their makeup and then some students got into trouble for staying out late with some shady people until the police got involved. Is it excessive to burden everyone with the same rule? For sure, but rules are always there for a reason.

I thought I was reading a shounen manga showing a villain's backstory (to bait sympathy like in Kimetsu no Yaiba).
It's sad, and this happens ALWAYS in real life: society and people can bring the worst out of anyone.
But what Hebikawa is right now is not just being "honest or true to oneself", it actually mutated to more of manipulation and like what she's trying to do to Kusunoki, trying to make her expose her true and rotten side because it was like that for her, like making other people give up living up to their ideals because she failed to do so.
Well, it's still early, and I think this girl will be given a better redemption arc.

Oh the classic "friendship among women doesn't exist" plot device

I actually thought Hebikawa was pretty restrained and tactful. It's not like she directly called the bully an uggo or intimidated the other girls.

Also, Domestic Girlfriend has that rare great uggo character for all the uggo lovers hating on Hebikawa and looking for a rec.

Kusonoki still best girl but Hebikawa would still make a great #2 waifu side-piece.

Snake is very controversial.

There was someone making brand new accounts to spam negative reactions.

This time someone tried to socially isolate her, and when she turned the tables and did the same thing back to them you still have people blaming her while making excuses for the other child.

And the essays written on her assumed evil grow in length with every new chapter, even though people can just click chapter 1 for a reread and go "That's it??" any time they want.
Dude I stg those people think she’s some kind of super villain 😭
Sometimes I feel as if we’re not reading the same manga…

Honestly, I don't understand what's going on either. I think I have read a lot of manga/stories where the most absurd villains were "justified/redeemed" by the authors. And at those times no one used to bat an eye. [Looking at you Pain(and others) from Naruto]

I honestly got tired and frustrated from this trope so I just started even hating the idea of a villain getting a backstory.
I believe everyone who was on a remotely same wavelength assembled here due to some coincidence and is now clowning on Hebizawa.

I don't really think she's some super villain, I honestly don't even remember if she has even done anything evil or harmful at this point. She might have been mean and looking for the worst in others, but that's kinda what being a teenager is about. I think.
Her name is a great meme, I think most of the posters hate her ironically. (And maybe because this manga really doesn't have much going on at this point.)
Snek hate funni.

I hope we get to see Mimimi-chan in the present day and her makeup still looks like utter shit. Just a total clown show from the neck up.

Honestly this story, made me laugh, it isn’t even that deep tbh.
Indeed. Actually, there's nothing deep in this manga so far.
Mc's bad experience, kusonoki motivation to make debut, her friend's obsession, and the snake's backstory. Everything are common trouble in puberty.

Holy shit, I think I finally understand her. This was such a small thing, but in my mind, it blew the mystery of her personality wide open.
