they are supposed to be kids and they are acting like kids. Kids are fucking stupid and its normal.
Only annoying thing about this manga and whole lot others is;
All of them has these dipshit backround characters going "WOW DUDE YOU KNOW SO AND SO GIRL, IM SO JEALOUS MAN!"
Its clearly there to up your ego and show readers the value of "so and so".
But who the fuck talks like that irl.
Its even more annoying when its an established character does it, side character or wingman and such.
Now i ve never been in japan and never seen real living breathing japanese kids(thank god) so in reality i really dont know if they really do have these retarded convos.
But whenever i see mangakas do this shit,( either backround characters "whispering" about it or directly screaming at MCs face)
i wanna punch my monitor.
Its the most retarded obnoxious thing i swear. Beta cuck dickless MCs second that in my book. that fucking bad.
I'm kinda curious where the concept of these popularity rankings in Japanese schools comes from. Like you said, I've never experienced any K through 12 education where everyone talks about the prettiest or second prettiest or third prettiest girl in school. Much less one where everyone openly talks about it and glares at you when you talk to them like a normal person and not some weird groupie.
It's especially strange when you consider that middle and highschool students in Japan are generally more pre-occupied with studying for entrance exams than popularity contests. I do know Japanese society and early education are incredibly problematic and kinda cutthroat with public rankings and mass conformity, but I still can't imagine where cuteness rankings appear in this, though I also haven't gone through middle and high school in Japan, so who knows?
I almost want to say it's just a trope from visual novels but that still doesn't feel right. Logistically it does serve to raise stakes and introduce artificial drama using a basic social hierarchy so even if it makes so sense I can see why it's done, but I'm really curious where it comes from.
