This is exactly that's going to happen. Whole clan is going to be killed off. If i recall correctly those two also died in WN. In LN it turned out differently for them.

My recollection of the WN is that the same thing happened to Sui Rei and the kids where they go into Ah Duo's (or Maomao's) custody but Shi Sui's actions and death are different.

The rest of the clan and village get executed in both. This chapter is gonna read real different if you come back after this arc is finished.

Well with the hint, more like a slap in the face actually, of the fact that people in that village have color blindness... it is obvious this is about a plot for a claim to the throne, probably some shit about "legitimacy" of who has the right to sit their ass on the throne... I won't lie, it is a boring reason, just entitled people whining because they aren't the ones in power, but if it is really that it isn't really surprising or really a "bad" reason, not like I could expect anything more "abstract".

Thinking a little, the reason may not be the really important part here as it is how long this ploy has been cooking and how it came to be.

I fucking hate that kid in the novel (Shi Sui's little brother), the more screen time he gets, the more i dread that in the manga he will be the same.

As a fairly decent swimmer I suddenly feel very threatened.

Yes yes yes, the relationship chart is a huge help! As you mentioned names being sometimes very similar paired with the monthly frequency has made it really hard to remember who some of these characters are.

Relationship tree is a good idea, though I kight put it at the end of the chapter with the plant trivia instead of the beginning.

I wonder if Shi Sui ate the latern fruit BECAUSE of its abortificative effect? We don't know whether or not she ever actually slept with the current emperor, so she might be taking it to make sure she doesn't get pregnant. Seems significant that they would mention its the main ingredient in abortion medicines is what I'm saying.

So it was mainly the the tetrodotoxin from the blowfish that faked her death with temporary total paralysis and the lingering symptoms are probably from asphyxia. The datura can cause a myriad of effects but the biggest concern would be an arrhythmia.

I do like the relationship tree idea, I don't like it being in the front especially if it contains the relevant characters of the current chapter.
I would even go so far as to say having a full relationship tree up to the current chapter would be nice to have.

I would prefer it if the family tree was at the end of the chapter rather than the start. I’d rather be confused and have to reread with the reminder than be spoiled on some relationship or character appearance.

Shame that these two are realistically going to be tortured and then beheaded along with their family, extended family and the family of the stall keeper who sold them the locusts. Doubt the series actually goes there, but that is how they did things back in the day.
