He want to go further in relationship with her, which would require him to reveal the truth to her at some point, he figured since she literally just touched it this might as well be that time.

It's more of:
"once I learn of this, it's one of those 'take it to the grave' thing" (as in keeping the secret forever, not literally dying)
"I'm not interested in going along that far"
