Frog avoided successfully
But that's precisely why she played dumb about the entire thing.Maomao's "suspicion" of Jinshi is still the weakest part of this story since she should have been able to figure it out a long time ago. Yes, she mentioned last chapter she didn't want to know, but that's still miles away from "oh, I would figure the whole thing out but I'm choosing not to" which is more of her usual MO.
The only things Maomao is attracted to are medicines and poisons. She can't have a romance with those. This is still a work of entertainment industry and must work with the laws involved in that business, in order to avoid the axe. I'd say the story has gone to a remarkable extent to avoid having Maomao being forced into any romantic developments. In fact this time as well she was spared from it. Perhaps the author really doesn't want to take the story one millimeter closer to it than this, but must occasionally throw in some morsels to keep the readers coming back.Thinking that someone is attractive and being attracted to someone are two different matters. Maomao knows Jinshi is objectively attractive, yet at the same time, she's not attracted to him.
Multiple times throughought the manga he has made it so that she either has to work for him or otherwise be around him. Sure, that's stretching the definition of "forcing", more of a "worming himself into her life", still quite a shitty way of acting around her. The "forcing" part is quite more literal in the last two chapters however, and I don't see him acting upon his frustrations as a good excuse.
I disagree. Her attraction to him is just kinda muted due to her incredibly rational personality.Thinking that someone is attractive and being attracted to someone are two different matters. Maomao knows Jinshi is objectively attractive, yet at the same time, she's not attracted to him.
I lumped that into "morally".I understand your point... but he really doesn't, because I am not talking about standard concepts... I am talking about empathy.
Not really. The list of people who outrank him isn't exactly long, and that would only be an issue at all if either of them told anyone else who shouldn't know she knows.by doing that he is putting her life in danger in a way that could go way past any help he could give.
She was wrong as well.I won't hold it against him for long, Shinji still is a very good person, but what he did here is wrong.
And cherry picking where to apply it.moooom, people are bringing up their modern western sensibilities in the ancient china manga again
Then please, oh great wrinkle-master, describe to me the scenes prior to this arc where she explicitly made that assertion. I do not recall (and I may be wrong about this, as I haven't re-read from the beginning in a while) any thoughts from Maomao where she described anything beyond a vague inkling that Jinshi wasn't a eunuch and deliberately chose to end her inquiry there. Since the story is written from her POV, it would be an unfair characterization to perceive thoughts implicitly when her musings are always explicit. But that's precisely why she played dumb about the entire thing.
I swear there's so many smooth brains who read this manga

I'll wait. Proper references take time to find after all.
is a little confused by the definition of "prior to this arc" including the last chapter and so will continue waiting for a responsive explanation by someone who is clearly better than me at reading and paying attention to the minutiaeVery Easy; past chapter.
She felt that thing, she chose to ignore the hints he's not an Eunuch (from her thoughts) aka someone who should not be there and yet he is, she knew anymore involvement = mother of all shitstorm.
I didn't say anything about "prior to this arc"is a little confused by the definition of "prior to this arc" including the last chapter and so will continue waiting for a responsive explanation by someone who is clearly better than me at reading and paying attention to the minutiae
continue picking the cherries, they are delicious
...but I did ask for it? My request was very specific for scenes prior to this arc, since the point of my complaint about the characterization is that Maomao should have seen the discrepancy in her understanding of who Jinshi was versus who he actually is far earlier than 60+ chapters in.I didn't say anything about "prior to this arc"
