Well in mythology they like "pure maidens" (i.e. virgin lolis). It probably has more to do with the mc looking androgynous.

Our MC may not be a maiden, but he's a lot more pure than some pure maidens out there… But yeah, I think purity and innocence counts!

It might just be age as alluded to above. He's just a kid so they can overlook him for now. (And even later they'll probably stand him, even if they might keep their distance. It's probably something that they just don't like the smell.)
