When it was introduced that there are child-slaves as a makeshift orphanage system, I thought: "okay, fine, whatever."
But -- having a system where parents can sell their children for money, that's fucked up. This episode tries to be all feel-good and shit, but creating incredibly fucked up systems is quite the opposite of it.

Just what the fuck is up with Japanese manga and slavery...
You think of it as creating fucked up system, I think of it as existing in the world, just because system is fucked up it deosnt mean it shouldnt exist in a world or fiction,

thats so stupid just because we think its bad we shouldnt stop it from being explored or used as plot device,

humans have had slavery since dawn of man in many different shapes, it existing in this kind of primitive society makes sense and its pretty tame in comparison to anything humans have done, now its up to you how you see it, just a fucked up system made by weird Japanese or a part of the fantasy world

In America they call it "For profit adoption". I really, really wish I was joking.

I think it's a sample of how poor the system of the referenced era, considering the isekai setting is something that mostly refers to pseudo-old-European(?) in the time where slave trade was still in. If it makes the setting work, so be it. In some sense, it might make you think, "Lucky I wasn't born in that place/era,".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is it the system like the orphanage whose child/ren is adopted they will get paid?
Or is it something else?
In some cases, both the parent offering the child for adoption and the "broker" will be paid. For an extra layer of awful, the prices change drastically based on the gender/ethnicity of the child.
