I tried to start reading where I left it (chapter 20) but I complelety forgot what the story was, so I started over... And I'm glad I did, even caught up to the latest on the same day, looking forward for the next chapter!

well that's from a future volume. Looking at the current volume the translated manga is on, the art shows his hair is changing color slightly from black. Then the next volume cover shows his hair to be moving toward green but still quite black. And then the last volume cover that you are commenting on shows full green color and his eye color has changed as well.

Perhaps it's showing how his power is getting stronger?

I don't know how to break it to you, but if that's what you're getting from a story wholly devoid of actual romance, that speaks more about you as a person than anything else.
