We've known for a while that Yui is Saeko's weakness, but damn. Her own daughter asking her who her father was more than just struck a nerve. It was a full on trauma trigger for her.

Based on what little Saeko said, it's pointing to something awful in her past. Probably some deceitful playboy who preyed on her in her youth. But if Yui inherited his looks, then the bloke must be some kind of super charismatic smooth talker to pull that off, if not also filthy rich to compensate for lack of good looks. We see a literally shady guy in her momentary flashback...

If Yui's bio dad was really a monster of a person, I'd like to see Saeko getting revenge on him at some point. Even as just a flashback if he's already dead. Few things feel worse in manga than seeing sexual predators getting away with ruining the lives of the innocent. I mean, I don't think Saeko was born crazy or evil; even she must've been an innocent girl once, and her experience with him that she deeply regrets was what likely broke her into becoming a monster herself.

As for this chapter, pretty genuinely real and heartwarming scene, although a little dampened by miss Psycho's usual antics.

Your comment made me think of Seiko from Chi no Wadachi - can we truly call her evil? And yet she still ruined the lives of pretty much every named character in the manga, including her own family.

I guess she's gonna confine them versus outright kill them? I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least one death or suicide but i guess you'd get more charges outright getting rid of some obstacles versus confining them, if not brainwashing (tho idk if she's mentally strong/capable of doing that if she was willing to commit suicide just b/c her daughter was upset)

My take: Saeko was traumatized by her experience with Yui's father and her obsession with Yui is because she reminds her of him, but in the form of a helpless child which gets her off. "If I can't love him, then I'll love the next best thing which is our child" type of situation but with a pinch of perversity. Of course this doesn't exclude the possibility that Saeko had some work done and Yui actually resembles her real face.

Hmm, did you actually read the chapter...?
Because I had the same theory about the daughter and her father looking alike and Saeko loving her obsessively because of it, but this chapter almost totally shut that down.
The way Saeko said "she shouldn't have lowered her guard just because he treated her nicely" speaks of an abusive husband that manipulated her and severely broke down her mind.
So either the daughter looked like a Saeko pre-plastic surgeries, or she is able to see past beyond any physical similarities between father and daughter, because that girl is the only good thing she got from that toxic relationship.
But the fact is, assuming the husband is alive (maybe Saeko already killed him) then she definitely is scared shitless and feels no love for him.

She just lost her best friends' trust, she's been humiliated by the class and even has a video on the internet of her masturbating while recording some people having sex....
Her social image has been completely tarnished. Yeah, I think she's pretty crushed and probably is going to quit school because of that.

I now have got a theory based on something that actually happened in China (I think it was). Where a man sued his wife for having "ugly" children and apparently the basis for the case he was making was that he was claiming that she basically catfished him. She had plastic surgery to make herself look more beautiful before meeting him and he didn't know. So his argument was that he was basically deceived I suppose but I don't know what happened with that case.

Anyways, so I'm thinking Saeko probably had plastic surgery, she was ugly in the past and probably got treated horribly because of it. This can also explain why she's so protective of Yui and is willing to do anything for Yui's sake so that Yui doesn't have to go through what she went through. As for the father, he probably met her after she did plastic surgery and initially treated well. But as soon as she had Yui, he began being really abusive (probably realising Saeko had plastic surgery and feeling like he was tricked into being with her). I think all those horrible experiences would drive anyone into going crazy and she's well aware of her being so she desperately wants to protect Yui so that she won't have to go through what she did and suffer like her.

I know someone else mentioned plastic surgery and I think that's likely what happened. Makes Saeko quite a sympathetic character even though she's really crazy, the fact that she's really willing to do anything for her precious daughter to protect her from turning out like she did.

It’s understandable if she gets targeted/ostracized at school but other than a full “mind break” instead of say, hiding under her covers she’d be more likely to lash out at the mom like she did with Yui and talking about the father not being in the pic and all that, tho that said I’m sure Saeko has plans even if she doesn’t outright commit murder , if not somehowr roofieing her and like dumping her off in some ghetto neighborhood /yakuza area
