Oh, it's been long enough, I even forgot this manga exist.
Not fond of the main story but I like seeing these nobles get their just desserts
A Proofreader doesn't need to know any Japanese, they need to be fluent in the language you are translating into (English, in this case)."Could be understood" is my target for now. I don't know anyone who's fluent in Japanese to help me proofread, after all...
In this story, it relies on one of the common tactics of black companies. Ruining your ability to work elsewhere. They lie and badmouth quitters, here he stripped the MC of his ability to earn a living by revoking his license (which is a stupid thing for him to have the power to do).It takes a special kind of mental gymnastics to treat someone like trash, call them useless, have them actually leave the company, and still expect them to carry your business. It's a bit similar, but more extreme, compared to "I Was Expelled From a Black Magicians' Guild and Picked up as a Royal Court Magician".
As someone who read way too much reddit post about revenge story or malicious compliance. This peculiar mindset seam to exist in real life since this kind of story appear enough in reddit. It takes a special kind of mental gymnastics to treat someone like trash, call them useless, have them actually leave the company, and still expect them to carry your business. I mean, it's like a revenge story where all you need to do to get revenge is to look at them, and possibly smirk, while they just completely self destruct.
Many of the tales on NotAlways__, on reddit, &c are themselves just fantasy stories. Without a link to a court document or to a news story, you should be disinclined to believe this one.As someone who read way too much reddit post about revenge story or malicious compliance. One of the story I remember was (in short) a pizzeria during covid pandemic. The owner was a butthole who scream at his employee non-stop. At some point, the delivery guy quit, because he was yelled at for not deliver pizza fast enough while the pizzeria just take too much order without taking care of the current delivery he is and the time between them.
I week later, the owner shows himself at his house, saying that he must stop being childish, take his responsibility and come back. He is the only delivery guy and others started quitting after him. (It's during a covid, so customers mostly being delivered instead of coming themselves) The man needed to call the police to have the owner out of his house. Even with no delivery guy, the owner still takes order and have a ton of complaints. The owner then try legal mean to have him back, then try again after bankruptcy to make his ex-employee to reimburse him since it was their fault his business went down, it was because they quit. Both were easily turn down by the judge. The owner became in dept and the guy who wrote this story didn't check what happen to his ex-boss after that.
Is it sad that I've seen multiple examples of this in real life? Particularly when someone's job makes everything run smoothly.... so much so, that incompetent middle managers think they don't anything of value. PARTICULARLY in back end services, where the whole operation relies on a piece of code that people think is superfluous. It takes a special kind of mental gymnastics to treat someone like trash, call them useless, have them actually leave the company, and still expect them to carry your business. Ah, I see. I think a friend of mine could help me out with that. I don't know if it would be any better, though.A Proofreader doesn't need to know any Japanese, they need to be fluent in the language you are translating into (English, in this case).
As much as we'd like to work on this, our staff are spread reaaaally thin right now. Our only "consistent" releases are pretty much 80k (my solo project), shigure (which I tl and we have a dedicated ts for) and ekky (which amarrezz pretty much solos half the time)Super happy to see this continued. I have a soft spot for these blacksmith-based titles and it's fun to have this one keep going after EveScans has seemingly bailed on this (they can talk about wanting to continue it all they want but 6 months of no progress when the raws are like 10+ complete chapters (as in numerical jumps, not counting .1/.2/.3 iterations) ahead while they regularly work on multiple other series says they don't care to a point that makes this fair game to be picked up elsewhere).
I think the translation is fine. It's not bad as far as MTL goes because at least the characters mostly seem to be speaking intelligible English and not a jumble of almost-english that has all sorts of problems with tenses, subject/verb agreement and the concept of plurals.
I'm the opposite. I'm sick of his old workplace because it's just so predictable and cringey. They served their purpose kickstarting the plot now we can move on.
I'd say your main goal when it comes to MTL is to produce a script which flows well - any accuracy lost through the MTL process isn't recoverable, but you can still try and make your dialogue flow as well as possible.Ah, I see. I think a friend of mine could help me out with that. I don't know if it would be any better, though.
Since I'm translating from MTL, I'm not confident enough to deviate too far from the translations it gave me. Of course, the MTL gave me, "Where are the fakes?" I know enough to translate it to, "Where is Fake?", but I don't know how much leeway do I have when translating.
