Super happy to see this continued. I have a soft spot for these blacksmith-based titles and it's fun to have this one keep going after EveScans has seemingly bailed on this (they can talk about wanting to continue it all they want but 6 months of no progress when the raws are like 10+ complete chapters (as in numerical jumps, not counting .1/.2/.3 iterations) ahead while they regularly work on multiple other series says they don't care to a point that makes this fair game to be picked up elsewhere).

I think the translation is fine. It's not bad as far as MTL goes because at least the characters mostly seem to be speaking intelligible English and not a jumble of almost-english that has all sorts of problems with tenses, subject/verb agreement and the concept of plurals.

Not fond of the main story but I like seeing these nobles get their just desserts

I'm the opposite. I'm sick of his old workplace because it's just so predictable and cringey. They served their purpose kickstarting the plot now we can move on.

It takes a special kind of mental gymnastics to treat someone like trash, call them useless, have them actually leave the company, and still expect them to carry your business. It's a bit similar, but more extreme, compared to "I Was Expelled From a Black Magicians' Guild and Picked up as a Royal Court Magician".
In this story, it relies on one of the common tactics of black companies. Ruining your ability to work elsewhere. They lie and badmouth quitters, here he stripped the MC of his ability to earn a living by revoking his license (which is a stupid thing for him to have the power to do).
That combined with his low expectations of Fake, due to prejudice and never properly evaluating his work, means he thinks the MC will have no choice but to grovel for his job back.

But I think it is more he just does not want to do the "extra" work, and is just putting it off. But as a nepotism hire he has never done his job properly and does not know the real workload

Yeah, the concept of this kind of manga is to inspire people in toxic companies to leave, if they are really so bad at their job that other people pile it up on their desk to give them experience and insults them for not being good enough what is the problem?
Is really to give a wake up call to people that entered the workforce and got into a bad company, so they think that the abuse is normal, and a lot of young people are lost for that, thinking they can't adapt to the real world and suppressing their will to scream for pressure and useless pride.
A black company in manga normally is one where every employee but the chiefs are overworked and abused, in a toxic company they would take a couple peopel and mistreat and overwork them when they slack off.
It could even have to be with weakly minded people that in school were project to finsih project and homeworks under the threat of being bullied, because minors in Japan don't get punished and bully incidents get buried from school and town to look clean, someone that was abused that way becoming a adult would not think that another adult can't do the same to them.
Another way to abuse employees that not bend or break in Japan is to give them extremely simple jobs and positions, something like copying files all day and nothing more, it makes a person feel useless as their ability is not used at all, that is more often used to force someone to quit on their own, so the company doesn't have a record of firing people.

I mean, it's like a revenge story where all you need to do to get revenge is to look at them, and possibly smirk, while they just completely self destruct.
As someone who read way too much reddit post about revenge story or malicious compliance. This peculiar mindset seam to exist in real life since this kind of story appear enough in reddit.

One of the story I remember was (in short) a pizzeria during covid pandemic. The owner was a butthole who scream at his employee non-stop. At some point, the delivery guy quit, because he was yelled at for not deliver pizza fast enough while the pizzeria just take too much order without taking care of the current delivery he is and the time between them.

I week later, the owner shows himself at his house, saying that he must stop being childish, take his responsibility and come back. He is the only delivery guy and others started quitting after him. (It's during a covid, so customers mostly being delivered instead of coming themselves) The man needed to call the police to have the owner out of his house. Even with no delivery guy, the owner still takes order and have a ton of complaints. The owner then try legal mean to have him back, then try again after bankruptcy to make his ex-employee to reimburse him since it was their fault his business went down, it was because they quit. Both were easily turn down by the judge. The owner became in dept and the guy who wrote this story didn't check what happen to his ex-boss after that.

Great to see this back in my queue! Easily read, keep up the good work!

Sometimes you get burned out due to poor decisions from up top. Looking at nursing these days, the last 3 years have been really hard and poor decisions from management means a ton of people are quitting and finding other jobs they can be happy doing.

Many of the tales on NotAlways__, on reddit, &c are themselves just fantasy stories. Without a link to a court document or to a news story, you should be disinclined to believe this one.

Is it sad that I've seen multiple examples of this in real life? Particularly when someone's job makes everything run smoothly.... so much so, that incompetent middle managers think they don't anything of value. PARTICULARLY in back end services, where the whole operation relies on a piece of code that people think is superfluous.

Good job Hoss, most importantly is not letting it die, but also taking the time to make the sentences coherent. I couldn't tell you if it was an accurate translation or not, but I believe you conveyed the important information and I didn't have to reread every sentence 6 times to try an decipher what was being said.

A Proofreader doesn't need to know any Japanese, they need to be fluent in the language you are translating into (English, in this case).
Ah, I see. I think a friend of mine could help me out with that. I don't know if it would be any better, though.

Since I'm translating from MTL, I'm not confident enough to deviate too far from the translations it gave me. Of course, the MTL gave me, "Where are the fakes?" I know enough to translate it to, "Where is Fake?", but I don't know how much leeway do I have when translating.

our tls are pretty busy with life and i've got practically little to no motivation to MTL this much text in a single page

As much as we'd like to work on this, our staff are spread reaaaally thin right now. Our only "consistent" releases are pretty much 80k (my solo project), shigure (which I tl and we have a dedicated ts for) and ekky (which amarrezz pretty much solos half the time)
In any case, 6 months is the standard courtesy period. I look forward to these future releases.

I'd say your main goal when it comes to MTL is to produce a script which flows well - any accuracy lost through the MTL process isn't recoverable, but you can still try and make your dialogue flow as well as possible.
A couple of hints with regards to typesetting:
Make sure you've left a little gap between your text and the bubble containing it. Around 10-15px perhaps. Sometimes the text touches the bubble here, which is easily solvable.
Try to keep !? or !! on a line with text as opposed to a seperate line, sometimes you'll have to rearrange your text box's lines but floating exclamations or interrobangs throw off the structure of the text.
Try to keep text sizes on a page roughly similar, except for font changes etc. where one text size is much larger than another. Sometimes the font size changes too much between bubbles which doesn't look great.
Good work though, keep it up.
