shut up aniki..alright, I'm ready. come on!
by LADHM
hey everybody at r/manga, I'm just someone who genuinely loves kanokari and so, watching it get all the diss it gets, aches my heart. sure, you're free to like or not like something, it's only human to have different tastes and choices. but as in the mainstream community, calling it "trash" is the norm which needs no explanation and as I consider myself "a reasonable person," I want to clear its name.
tell me what you honestly can't stand or don't like about the series that makes you think it's only fair for it to get this kind of treatment and I'll try to clear any possible misunderstandings. also, please mention till where you've read the manga or watched the anime at the start of your comment as it'd help me understand your point of view better.
I've only been its fan for about two months, and my first reaction after I watched its first season about two years back, was that it was your typical harem anime with indecisive horny male leads where plot never progresses (not to mention the way it ended, was a huge bummer), so I kind of understand the other side. but thinking about it now, it feels like I was just too impatient and immature back then. I'm seventeen atm so it's just that age.
and in these past couple months, I've come across quite a lot of hate comments and replies whether it be youtube, twitter, or reddit. so let me get the common ones out of the way first.
"kazuya is so dumb and perverted why do all the girls even like him?!"; "he's a failure incel and a whining bitch with no balls who doesn't deserve any fucking happiness!"; "die you sore loser."
hmm, did I overdo it? well I guess I'm not too off the mark.
ahem... first, go search the meaning of sore loser because I think you're missing "antonym of" there.
second, he's not a failure, his future is financially stable. you might've meant ambitionless there so let's talk about that.
many of us find ourselves lost at some point in our lives, not being ambitious about anything isn't bad; as we already know, he never found the need to think about his life seriously enough, his life was already set to handle their family business.
if you find it too dull to watch, look at chizuru.
third, even kazuya knows what his level is, he repeats it countless times, "if not for rental, she'd never be my girlfriend."
even if he has low self esteem, he's still considerate towards others, sees their good sides, and appreciates them (hell even ruka).
the thing is, we see the whole story mostly from kazuya's perspective. his seemingly overdramatic commentary on situations he finds himself in, even his facial expressions, it's all in his head, not how the girls sees him. people at my subreddit calls it, kazuya vision (check out this post for some indepth analysis).
you all must find it very annoying but believe me, once you fall in love with this dude, it's often hilarious, and if you're curious, no I'm not insane.
fourth, how exactly is he "perverted," I'm assuming you know its meaning if you're using this word, in case you don't,
pervert means a person whose sexual behaviour is regarded as abnormal and unacceptable.
behaviour means the way in which one acts or conducts oneself, especially towards others.
porn really does destroy your brain, do you know how it is?
you don't like the way he ogles over cute girls? I didn't either. if he matches your image of an incel, go ahead, call him an incel. but is that the first time you've seen an incel anime protagonist? aren't you just annoyed it gained so much popularity while the ones better in your opinion didn't? which is why you all started calling it things like dumpster fire, guilty pleasure or whatever.
sorry, I'll cool my head...
there are some guys out there who gets flustered around pretty girls (I don't even know if I fall into this category as I've never really hung out with girls before), for all we know, what we call ogling, might just be his "don't get nervous, calm down, calm do-how the fuck can I calm down, look at her! those legs, that figure and so on" kind of mechanism.
okay fine, his mind is dirty, I accept it. but reiji is the only person who had the balls to openly show it, we've seen many anime protagonists found with porn magazines, I wonder what do they do with it? I know, it must be for research. I wonder why steam he's blushing seeing her in her swimsuit? I know, it's because he's embarrassed his nipples are showing. I wonder why his face was red when she drank juice from the same bottle he drank it from? I know, he's mad at her because he wanted it all to himself. seriously! they get hard around their girls too, it's just never shown. why? because it's not romantic. why does kanokari does it then? because it ain't romantic at all! you need to know just how one sidedly nervous he is.
lastly, it's the hearing of culprit kazuya kinoshita, guilty for lying to his family and friends about him having a girlfriend, blackmailing her, and even trying to break into her house. I'm his lawyer, hello everyone, again.
in his defense, the intentions with which he lied to his grandma were as noble as wishing for someone you love, to be happy. neither did it bother mizuhara much. (proof can be seen on pages 34 to 47 of first chapter here)
I won't deny he blackmailed her, but as he agreed to it being just a one time thing, and as she got paid at her job, it felt more like a deal. as for the reasons why he blackmailed her, they were as noble as trying not to break the heart of someone you love... haha, sorry I couldn't hold it in anymore.
ahem... as for when he tried to break into her house, correction there, broke into her house; there's no denying he went too far asking for favor, but as he finally came to terms with what had to be done, and nearly told her grandma about the truth (you can't say my boy has no balls, he's a man and he's proven it quite a lot of times; not in that way in case someone's mind wandered in that direction) but just then mizuhara suddenly felt sympathetic for his grandma and for her happiness, decided to keep up the act so that she could suck money out of kazuya every wednesday as her revenge hahaha, sorry, sorry. is it necessary though, why am I going through the trouble of explaining such hilarious moments? well, you can't trust people. (link to third chapter)
o-oh, I almost forgot the most important one, everyone deserves happiness, unless you're someone who has killed somebody or have taken something away from them that can't be replaced and yea, only after you've redeemed yourself. 🙃
if I am mentioning this much, I might as well go all out.
his friends always teased him for being such a "virgin," looked down on him, telling him to just go look for an ugly one, like of course he got fed up and lied again to make them shut their mouths once and for all.
have you ever been in a bad mood and lashed out at someone who had nothing to do with it? relatable now, right?
as for him causing trouble after trouble for mizuhara, he got enough self loathing and depression for that as punishment already, not to mention he helped her four times.
on to the next ones, I assure you the condition is very bad.
"I really hate it when nice art gets wasted on terrible writing."; "reiji's milking the series."; "the guy's obsessed with his own drawing, talk about creepy, feel bad for his wife and kid."
first of all, let's deal with that last one as it's quite sensitive considering that it's about a real person and not his work.
I don't exactly know when people started saying it but look at this post on twitter.
it's part of the various ones reiji miyajima posted on his twitter to promote kanojo, okarishimasu when its serialization was announced (but the manga had yet to start).
it clearly shows that the author already did something pretty similar to what he's currently doing on twitter. he's simply promoting the series, not self inserting or thinking chizuru is his girlfriend like some think.
besides, if you've been in the anime and manga community long enough, you'd know that drawing 2D characters on real backgrounds isn't something new, manhwas do this all the time.
I find it weirdly terrifying that people can seriously think that way, just how much mental stability and maturity do you think it requires to work on a weekly serialized manga? sensei even started a new bi-weekly serialized manga and it's honestly a masterpiece in the making, please do check it out.
and they give reasons for why they think this way too, saying that he doesn't let the plot progress because he wants chizuru to himself, like 🤯. who's writing this shit?! twelve year olds? is this a joke? because it really shouldn't be funny. he's near my dad's age!
secondly, I, being someone who binged the manga, can't really understand your feelings well. because to me, every arc of the story made sense. I've never really heared a detailed explanation as to why they think he's milking it besides things like,
kazuya then - we're just a client and a rental girlfriend.
kazuya now - we're still just a client and a rental girlfriend.
or that, "it should've ended 29 volumes ago."
guys, I'd highly appreciate it if you won't joke around.
if you're view of progress is status, then do you mean to say that after becoming girlfriend-boyfriend, the only progress that's left and that happens in their relationship is marriage?
well, they might be dumb but atleast they're not blind... I just wanted to say it, don't take it seriously.
the last one I'll be discussing on my own account is, "ruka assaulted him! how is this okay?!"
it's up to the guy in question. even among us who still likes kanokari, ruka's support is the weakest. all she has become now, is an immature selfish girl who's on kazuya's side as long as he takes her side, hopefully it'll change the next time we see her.
before I end this post, imo,
kanokari peels all layers of love.
love isn't always pure and wholesome, it's selfish, it's desperate, it's possessive, it's painful, it's depressing, it clouds your mind to the extent you can't even think properly.
how it is when you hopelessly love someone, when you just can't forget about them; when your gaze unknowingly wander towards them, you notice every little thing about them, you're in awe of their beauty; when you care about them more than yourself, when you respect them so much you start to think you don't deserve them; when you can't help but have these dirty thoughts, when you fear they might come to hate you, when you want them to love you.
when you love someone.
it shows that you don't have to be attracted to them at first glance to fall in love with them, to fall for the person who fell for you, not being able to ignore your feelings anymore, when you seriously think about your future together.
it's simply amazing. I've never felt love between characters so deeply before.
thank you for reading this ridiculously large post and, I'll see you in the comments.
