It's somewhat interesting that when speaking Japanese one often stops caring about whether it's singular or plural when not relevant, but I had to translate it as “government official” or “government officials” so I had to make an arbitrary choice but I note it in the case that a future chapter might contract my translation to make people aware that it's not canon.
A famous example of this going wrong is that the English translation of
Dragon Ball has Freezer refer to his “parents” with the Japanese not implying multiple, in fact soft implying only one, and it later being revealed that his species reproduces asexually and that King Cold is his only parent.
