Why do people keep comparing this with Eminence? Shadow is a self-centered dick who is saved by universe revolving around himself while guildmaster is screwed by universe and thus forced to play the part.

@Kwendy probably because everything in the story is pointing towards the situation constantly resolving perfectly in the guildmaster's favor, regardless of what it appears to be in his eyes. In other words, the universe put him in a place he didn't want to be, but continuously revolves around him and serves him. The worlds both take the same actions towards the protagonists, except the protagonists are different.
