I think Youyan has been very open towards Xiu but Xiu has too much trauma from the past that she can't easily go back to Youyan. Youyan has to prove herself that she will never revert back to the dark side.

Yeah they've communicated. It's not like they both don't know what's happening. Communication doesn't just fix everything like people seem to think, and it doesn't erase their history. This will take time, a lot of work and slowly rebuilt trust.

I'm not suggesting that Xiu and Youyan just "talk". I mean, clear and concise couple's therapy. Remember, we as the audience are following Youyan, and we know that she's reincarnated from three years in the future and has deep regrets about her past actions.

Xiu is very cautious about opening herself back up to Youyan. It's only been two years since their breakup, and those wounds are still there. Hence why actual therapy and proper communication beyond, "I have repented. I want you and I am pursuing you shamelessly," and esoteric monologues in a fanfic needs to happen.
