uh why doctor? I know he calls her sensei which can mean either teacher or doctor (or really just someone who's an expert at something) but I don't think it's the latter in his case lol

I'm also interested in the rationale for the use of "Doctor."
I think sensei here means "a respected person" in general, since he still consider her not his master (shishou)

I guess the title is a bit difficult in English

"Professional mercenaries care more about armor than weapon."

Wtf is MC talking about? He isn't wearing any significant armor like a helmet shield or chestplate either. Is he retarded?
I mean it's understandable as this is another manga where armor is as useless as regular clothing, but the mangaka couldn't be less self aware.

I think Doctor fits well. Also, Doctor Kuon looking like Frieren for that one panel.

I think that's exactly the point the little girl called him out on. Obviously he takes better care of his attire, but it's not something you can prove for certain.

Why not just leave it as Kuon-sensei? If we can take umami as a loan word, the certainly sensei would also be acceptable?

yes, I also think the most natural way is just leave it as sensei

or, if we absolutely have to, then either Ms. or Lady

I don't see the girl calling him out at all. Just asking questions why she should trust him.
And he trying to provide proof that he is a professional because we wears armor...which he doesn't so he fails at that point.

Overall IMHO that whole argument is moot and that whole conversation pointless.
Unless something was lost in translation, it seems the mangaka had no clue what he wanted to tell with that scene.

It is like calling someone a professor. How do you recognize someone's academic standing while also implying you are not their student?

Sensei IS accurate, but may not cover MC's unwillingness to be a mage.

It's also not really that important, so the TL can do whatever he wants.

Chapter 2 she tells him I'm your master and physician(主治医) now.
As for why now and not in ch2, because I tried to keep it as teacher, but it kept bothering me to call her teacher while refusing to acknowledge being her apprentice(student).

actually, if you look he's wearing chainmail which if we take the medival times as a basis is crazy expensive, this is even more so if he's using a first hand one.

For context, you can get 10 cows for the price of a chainmail and a normal person would need at least a year if not 4-6 years of wages assuming you don't need to pay for anything else (food, etc.) to afford one soo yea

Thanks for the translation.
Wouldn't sensei be translated as "master"? Though it's a good idea to use something else since Gull refuses to be considered Kuon's apprentice.

First of all, the most important piece of armor during medival times was a helmet and then a shield.

Secondly, sorry but I don't see any chainmail here. The stuff that is visible on page 2 looks like either studded leather or downright just gamberson to me.
That's armor yes but I wrote he doesn't wears any significant kind of armor.

I guess there is a chance he wears some kind of scale chest armor but to me it really looks more like some kind of clothing. Still, helmet and shield takes priority. I mean me mentioned the shield himself.

Not going to argue about the shield + helmet part thats true althiugh i dont know of studsied leather or gaberson with that tight pattern still looks more like chainmail to me. I would say gaberson is more like the guy holding the spear who got cut in half was wearing back in ch1

Sure, maybe you are right. Actually it's probable you are.

I obviously care too much about such details, considering the mangaka already made it clear during chapter 1 we are in some kind of mystical woo woo land where universal natural laws don't apply. Otherwise MC wouldn't be able to make that impossible cut on that thrown wooden tablet. Impossible not only due to human limitations, but also material properties, conservation of momentum and the fact that the curvature of the the cut was smaller that the blade. So it is likely the mangaka still hasn't figured out the lore of his manga and will probably make up new rules in the future on the spot.
Considering armor in this manga right now has the defensive properties of wet paper machee, the conversation about armor caught me completely off guard and made me write that initial comment. Sure a lot of fantasy stories feature useless armor, but usually they don't mention it. In fact, the only fantasy manga I know of that features functional armor is Goblin Slayer and the spinoff Goblin Slayer first year, where the chainmail is instantly recognizable and works like it's supposed to.

I'm giving this manga another 2-3 chapters to see if it improves. I guess it's not my cup of tea.
