Someone explain to my smol brain why MC and the girl had to burn down the old town (first town mc was jailed in) just to escape ,ruining the settlement

And why the citizens tried so hard to stop them from escaping when they can just die and respawn out of the town ? Why go yhru so much trouble

Dying makes the endman transformation accelerate.
