I understand she might be missing her mom, but if she knows the current fiancee's name/them living together or so, i'd imagine she'd eventually accept it since she's not throwing a tantrum/being super against it unless she's smart/knowing enough to make a passive aggressive snipe about her being an affair partner (i think? dun remember the details lol)

it is surprising she doesn't have shared custody or visited her more so but other than him cheating? idk if there was anything too bad b/c she could've easily just cut her off and not care/bother to meet her again and let the dad explain about the remarriage alone assuming there'll actually be a ceremony versus some city hall thing

The husband is so annoying, he can only complain. Everything Shouko did, he keep complaining. At first, I was scared the kid would be happy, but I'm glad she feels sad. The kid is more mature than the husband.

Her ex-husband indeed comes off as extremely unlikeable: makes a move on Shouko, marry her and has a child, only to promptly cheat. Also spent most of time on-page silently judging ever move, and only ever speaking to be an absolute nag.

He is making her do his dirty work after he caused this situation. I think that's what makes it feel extra disgusting.

-He broke their family up by cheating
-She left to not damage their daughter's mental or emotional health or view of relationships
-He took sole custody and barely lets her visit the child
-He decided he wanted to remarry but he is too much of a coward to break the news to his child on his own despite being the one that broke the marriage in the first damn place.

And now the MC is very clearly putting on a fake smile thinking surely this is for the good of her child.

Also remember that he only married her out of obligation, because they had sex and accidentally got Shouko pregnant because the condom broke. He even likely implied that they wouldnt have married if it didnt happen.

It's heartbreaking finding out this is the reality of how custody often works in Japan, I really hope they manage to change that in the near future. (At least having visitation systems)

It's quite shocking how absurdly traditional Japan is in this regard. I do not see rhyme nor sense in this, nor why it had taken them so very long to adapt to the standard of every civilized country in the world.
Good news is that it was a bit over a year ago that joint custody finally became legalized in Japan. And luckily, in the case of already divorced couples where custody had been granted to a single parent, either parent can now go back to court and have that decision overturned under the new law.
But naturally, it's gonna' take quite some time until this becomes the norm, or even not frowned upon.
