Basically, they come across ice cream sticks that seem to reveal the fates of those who entered before them - people who were there for things like a "drive" or "wild plant foraging" implying what the victims were doing before they disappeared or met their doom. When they heard the voice say "Test of courage?" - it’s then they realize the forest entity knows why they’ve come and that they’re next. The entity might be currently writing that in the next stick, marking them as the next victims.

Then what about the animals name?

Kind of inconsistent, some being name such as "tama-chan" and "pochi". While the other such as "karasu" and "suzume" is animal species.

Feels a bit like BIVOUAC from Fake Documentary Q, but not quite as effective. That said, I really like this style of horror where there isn't a supernatural being or event depicted, just creepy stuff that makes you anxious.
