It's so predictable I hate this.
[ul]slave girl check
adventurers guild check
ranking system explanation check
herb picking quest (aka novice quest aka wolfs subjugation quest) check
thugs bullying the novice party check[/ul]
Why every damn JP isekai novel is copying the same lazy pattern without even slightly altering it?!

Explains guild rankings like it isn’t obvious for the 10000rd time

@Yurnero I never bother to read it too, but just the fact that there is something I need to skip would ruin the reading experience for me.

@Zergio200ism honestly, it feels like I'm just going through the motions, without any real expectations when I see the isekai tag. Once I see something new, I need to open the link to be sure that isekai still sucks, but there is a chance I will stay if the artist is doing its job well. Lately, I started to hate typical JP protagonists too (this one spared a bunch of rapists for example), so in a sense, I follow these mangas purely for cute girls. Maybe switching off your brain is a final and purest form of enjoyment.

Dropped. Having seen MCs actually killing the would-be rapists in this sort of scenario makes this kind of guy seem weak, or tells me that the author doesn't have the guts to do anything truly serious.
"B-but it might cause trouble!?" Only if witnesses are around, which is what he just did. Leaving them alive means they'll report to other criminals and won't stop them from raping a different woman.

Oh no.... I wonder how Nihon jin author will treat the dark elves in this one.

yeah, but not exactly likely. and the guild guy is a witness who could easily testify if even necessary. I'd say the lack of comment from the guild guy is probably more evidence that violent actions are even expected or that the authorities have no real power to handle such hoodlums. which makes his refusal to take care of the problem permanently worse.
and before you say that a potential hoodlum organization could then become a problem. him fighting or refusing them at all would make that true. and in that case killing them would at least leave them with less enforcers.

@Fari
thats actually a good point. squeamishness would be a perfectly acceptable answer for not wanting to kill (but most authors seem to go with a bs 'morality' excuse). And I would probably accept that from another character, but nothing about the MC we've seen so far suggests any sort of squeamishness. In fact he's been coldly logical throughout the story. which makes this incedent stand out all the more.

for once, i like to see that those thugs actually sent by the guild master
like, if the newbie just go along, they'd actually protect them and teach the newbie about the world
if the newbie acts arrogant, then they'd acts like thugs and threaten rape and shit, only to go 'sike, jk' if the newbie falls under pressure, and then guide them
then if the newbie just kick their ass, now you know a golden goose waiting to be exploited

would be a nice twist on the cliche and a nice filter tbh
the supposedly guild master silently overlooking the thug and how the first few sentences of the thugs seems quite harmless kinda get my hope that it might be the case here, but not holding my breath for it
