@GodGinrai You're assuming the worst to be the most likely though. Why would an upperclassman teach the new students how to activate their magic without permission from teachers? Regardless of how irresponsible it is, and the likeliness of a stupid af upperclassman doing it, there's too many repercussions to consider it. Plus, there's no valid reason for them to do it ignorantly, because they are the upperclassmen, they know the risks of activating magic without prior knowledge to magic theory. That's a fucked up way to demonstrate consequence by causing it first hand. No, this school isn't taking a leisurely pace, it's pretty fair considering the risks. I've never seen any sort of technical education that immediately dives into practice without learning theory and fundamentals of their craft.

@OsoJr You're expecting kids to think like adults. You can tell from the attitude we've seen from people in her class that upperclassmen should not be mature enough to restrain themselves from such irresponsible acts.

@Whimsicat Now I'm even more irritated with that guy than I already was.
He's just going to be a smug asshole the whole time and get away with it because he's "special" isn't he? I UTTERLY DESPISE that kind of character.

He remains her bitter rival until the graduation.

That said, he isn't given any preferential treatment, and in fact the two's constant fighting become such a common scene that this one time they get into a fight on the day of school vacation, the teachers just shouted "Go back before it gets dark" and returned to school.

On the graduation dance he did soften up a little bit, with the whole mid-air dance with just the two of them in the garden (although it seem to be heavily implied that he was sent to her with some kind of 'go to your fated person' magic)
Heck, he even went as far as making a formal pose and said "O beautiful ice witch, will you honor me with a dance?"
(though that scene ends with the two getting back to the track of "I'm definitely going to defeat you one day!" "O RLY? *smug*")

That said I stopped reading after the school arc was over so I don't know if he ever soften up anymore than that.

@GodGinrai What? Excuse me? "You can tell from the attitude we've seen from people in her class that upperclassmen should not be mature enough..." how does that make sense? That's literally saying that kids don't mature or learn. What exactly do her classmates even hint to being as irresponsible as you think they are? Is it because they're infatuated with a guy? Seriously, I don't even understand how you can assume the worst in this situation. It's a good thing that the lessons are taken with care and time, this is literally the power of nature, it's magic. It's not leisurely for the school to take half a year to officially have kids practice magic. If anything, every scenario you expect are more likely if they were to practice magic with no prior knowledge on theory. It's the same reason people needs to take a test to use certain heavy machines or watch a safety video before working in a warehouse.

@OsoJr I mean, one year is long enough for some people to mature, but you can't assume that everyone will in such a short amount of time. And I'm not talking about their infatuation with handsome men, but the way they acted to each other. Plus, if the staff of this school really were delaying the learning for safety purposes, they wouldn't do this exercise in a classroom where things could get damaged (and did) but instead outside in a clear area.

@GodGinrai The desk got burned from proximity, plus was repaired instantly as though a pencil was simply dropped. They weren't delaying anything, this is normal procedure for anything that has a lot of risks without proper guidance. I seriously don't even know what your argument is anymore. Initially you claimed the school to be taking a leisurely pace in their lessons by only having the kids activate their magic half a year into their first grade, then I object by saying that's a reasonable amount of time for the kids to learn about the fundamentals of magic so they can lower risks of hurting themselves when actually practicing, now you're saying things as if the students should learn magic early and hurt themselves to learn.

@OsoJr My argument is still that they were taking a leisurely pace teaching students magic. I am merely listing the reasons why your explanation that it is for safety reasons doesn't hold water. You can say what you want, but the fact that the desk got damaged is proof in itself that they should have done it in an open area where things couldn't have gotten damaged. What if a student had had that much potential for fire magic and it spread? At the very least, it could harm the students there. And even if they could be healed afterwards, that doesn't make up for the mental damage.

@GinGinrai Literally the same chances as when teaching adults how to handle a gun. One of the kids just conjured a fucking fire dragon, so even something of that level was expected. If you're trying to denounce my argument that the school is taking proper pacing in teaching kids how to handle magic, then at least give a reason why you think otherwise, or else you're literally just saying nonsense because there's no reason behind your argument besides assumption.
