You don't know what you're talking about.
Unlike places in the west like America, a child can walk safely in their neighborhood to a conbini (they're always 5 minutes away max) and buy a bento. Japan doesn't have the gun-happy rapey assaulty culture that we do in the west. Neighborhood markets and stores are extremely close by unless you're in an extremely rural area because they don't believe in spreading their stores out miles apart from each other, different zoning laws.

Sucks that so many people read scenes like those in manga often without context. It was supposed to be a scene of loneliness yes, but not "abuse".
