It is a fact that Japanese defense attorneys have no right to discovery in criminal trials, and if they want evidence disclosed then they have to specifically request it, and the request has to be approved by the judge. Japanese defendants also have no right to have a lawyer present when they're questioned by the police. The fact that fewer cases are prosecuted is not evidence that the system actually works. It shows that by the time a case goes to trial the state has already decided the defendant is guilty, making the trial a formality, and the fact that the state sometimes decides that the accused is not guilty doesn't change that. The reason why Ace Attorney has you play as a defense attorney who always wins is because educated Japanese people know that the system is bullshit.
